Fences, a low diction play by August Wilson, expresses the complex relationship between a father and his sons. Troy Maxson, once a baseball star on a Negro League, is now envious of his son Cory who dreams of having a successful football career. Troy also worries that Cory will be treated with the same disrespect that he (Troy) once was during his baseball career. Lyons, Troys eldest son, is completely misunderstood by Troy, mostly because of his refusal to get a â€Å"real† job and his drive to become a musician. Wilson references stories from Troys past to convey the reason behind Troys frustration and actions toward his children. To begin to understand Troy, we must observe the tumultuous relationship between Troy and his father.†¦show more content†¦He seems to care a bit more about his children and puts his family first before his job, but throughout the play he pushes his children out of his home a little faster than most families would now-a-days, which is re miniscent of his father. Troy has followed what he knows and is raising his family the only way he knows how (Wilson 1310-1313). Of the two sons, Lyons seems to be the one that Troy is the most frustrated with. Troy cannot understand any of his actions, especially his love for jazz music. He refers to it as â€Å"Chinese music†, hinting that it is something foreign to him that he cannot comprehend. Lyons music is only one of the many issues his father has with him. Lyons does not have a real job, like Troy. Instead, he plays music where and when he can and his girlfriend supports the two of them. He claims he cant get a decent job anywhere and says he doesnt want to â€Å"be punching nobodys time clock†. Lyons frequently asks Troy for money â€Å"Well, hell, since you mentioned it... let me have ten dollars.†. This irritates Troy because he works hard for his money only to hand it over to his son who refuses to find a job, though Lyons does eventually pay him ba ck. Troy doesnt understand why Lyons turned out this way, he surely didnt raise him to become jobless and play music, nor did he raise any of his sons to beg for money, especially from their father. This piece, written in the early- to mid- nineteenth century, was well known for its feminist views. It is the story of a controlling husband and a woman who is coping from being separated from her child at birth. She is trapped in this relationship with a man who does not seem to care much for how she is feeling and, at the end of the story, she overpowers him and gets out. The Yellow Wallpaper greatly coincides with gender stereotypes, gender roles, Cult of True Womanhood, and Male Sex Role Identity and how they exist in modern-day society. Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an American poet, writer and lecturer for social reform. She was regarded as the most significant Western feminist theorist of her day (Purvis, 2009). Gilman’s feminist views can be clearly seen in The Yellow Wallpaper as she describes the relationship between a controlling husband and his sick wife. Secondly, for a special occasion, the ambience of the place also plays a vital role. It feels good to be around a place that looks beautiful. People have a habit of clicking many pictures and capture the memories of the special day. Hence, I check out the photos of the restaurant before booking it. I would also confirm if the music is soothing. Thirdly, customer service at the restaurant is very important to me. Assuming I would share the special occasion with my loved ones, I would like the waiting staff and the manager to communicate politely with my people. Fourthly, for a special occasion, I should be able to book the table in advance and would not appreciate waiting outside a hotel to get a table. Therefore, I would ensure I visit a restaurant that allows advance booking (online or on the phone). Fifthly, I would analyze my budget and select a restaurant that suits my budget. Usually my budget for a special occasion would be relatively high and hence I would have a wide variety of options to select from. Lastly, I would try to find a restaurant that is not very far away from my place. Conclusion Marketers study buyer behavior in order to understand their needs better.
